An anvil "works" by having mass under the hammer-the harder you plan on striking/the heavier the hammer/the heavier the iron you are trying to shape, the heavier the anvil needs to be. Youve got a good candidate for capping a vertical piece, a lot of the work has already been done on that tail to turn it into one of the welded on caps pictured.
